GHYC – The Mixed Dinghy Fleets – Laser – Topaz – Mirror – Visions – etc

Hello GHYC Dinghy sailors,

We’re coming close to another fun, exciting season of mixed dinghy racing in Glandore and we have a packed calendar to keep you busy all Summer.

Summer Leagues:

The leagues will begin on Tuesday 5th July with the Early July league.

Weather permitting, racing will take place every Tuesday and Thursday evening of the season with first gun at 6pm and hopefully 2 races per night.

The emphases of the leagues is on enjoyable racing for all ages, so whether you’re dusting off your old wetsuit or a seasoned pro, everybody will be catered for. The leagues will be open to all classes of dinghy, and we will be using the Portsmouth Yardstick Handicap system to score all races.

We will be running 3 separate leagues this summer:

Early July League – 5/7/12/14 July

Late July League – 19/21/26/28 July

August League – 2/4/9/11 August

Gordon Cup:

The main mixed dinghy event in Glandore this year is the Gordon Cup on Sunday 31st July. Again this event is open to all ages and normally attracts a large number of sailors to accommodate both fun and competitiveness! This will be followed by the traditional BBQ buffet afterwards for all competitors.

Glandore Regatta:

The regatta takes place on Saturday 13th August. It will feature both separate class races and an all in, mixed class race for dinghies again this year.

Marconi Cup:

Glandore Harbour will play host to the best, inter-club, team racing event in West Cork this year on Sunday July 24th. After Glandore’s best ever finish in Baltimore last year, the home side will be pushing for gold on home waters in 2016.

This event will be open to all sailors under 19 and training will be incorporated into the Summer race leagues for all who are interested.

Get involved and give dinghy racing a go this summer. Regardless of age or ability, it’s a safe, fun way to get on the water.
