Primary School Sailing 2021 for Abbeystrewry, Glandore, Leap and Union Hall National Schools. Kids from each school had three days of fun on the water under the watchful eyes of young GHYC instructors & helpers using GHYC fleet of sailing dinghies. Vice Commodore Tim Forde masterminded the event.
The 2021 Primary Schools Regatta at GHYC became the David & Goliath match up that many expected with Union Hall making a clean sweep of all races despite some valiant legs sailed by other local schools. The UH team of Eolann Miles & Liam Deasy with crews Donna Woods and Kate O Brien were veterans of several years of local Dinghy leagues and with Eolann a regular on the Dragon circuit despite his years. Fifth class pupils in attendance were immediately planning their training to wrest the trophies from Union Hall’s grasp in 2022 !
Closing stages of the novelty race “Bring the parent home” at 2021 Primary Schools Regatta with Abbeystrewry rapidly closing on Union Hall whose parent Lee Miles won by a hair, sprinting through the falling tide and “home” just ahead of Abbeystrewry. No parents were harmed in the making of this event…not much anyway 🤭
