Over the years we have been approached by a lot of adults, often parents of our Junior sailors, for an “Introduction to sailing” geared specifically for adults, because it’s not fair if the juniors have all the fun.
Over the years we have built in a number of approaches
- a “Competent Crew” course over 4 evenings (usually 6pm to 9pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays). The course takes people through the sailing basics in our RS Vision dinghies, which are a little larger and more comfortable for adults and although they should remain upright, there is always the possibility of a capsize so you would need to be prepared for that! While the aim of the course is to make you a competent crew, our instructors will be encouraging anyone who wants to helm to do just that. The Visions are also fitted with a Spinnaker so the more advanced/ brave might like to give that a go too, but obviously it will all be weather dependent.
- volunteer as Squib crew. This allows to try out these small keelboats which are raced regularly in Glandore and in which there are plenty of crew vacancies for anyone who would like to continue sailing throughout the season.
- ‘Try Sailing’ Session – this is a one off, no commitment for those who would just like to get a feel for sailing, followed of course by a social aspect afterward.
