11 – 13 June
Day 1
The first major Irish Dragon Championships in Ireland since 2019 was hosted by Glandore Harbour Yacht Club started today with 19 Dragons on the race course in a strong south westerly breeze in Glandore Bay. After several recalls two races under Black Flag were set by PRO Ciaran McSweeney.
Little Fella and Phantom were the pace setters tied on 4pts each.
Top GHYC Boats were Moonshine and War Baby.
Day 2
A wonderful day of Dragon sailing in Glandore Bay with sightings of dolphins plus Finn and Minke whales 😀
A sea breeze of 12-15kts eventually filled in after almost an hour’s postponement enabling PRO Ciaran MCSweeney to get the well behaved fleet off for the scheduled 3 races.
Little Fella with 2 bullets gained an unbeatable lead over Phantom.
Moonshine maintained the top GHYC slot while Aphrodite moved into second place.
Day 3
Another glorious day of Dragon sailing on Glandore Bay 😀
A light southwesterly breeze enabled PRO Ciaran MCSweeney to get the fleet off on schedule for the last race of the Championship.
Overall winner was Little Fella after count back to resolve tie with Phantom.
Top placed GHYC Dragon was Moonshine.
The Championship Trophy and lots more race prizes were presented on the crowded and sunny Glandore Terrace by GHYC Commodore Eamon Timoney and Fleet Captain Kieran O’Donoghue.
At the Prize Giving Commodore Eamon Timoney & Fleet Captain Kieran O’Donoghue thanked the team of 35 volunteers who made the event possible. Particularly Richard Bradburn for providing the Committee boat and Ciaran MCSweeney PRO.
While our Dragon veteran Don Street did not race Gypsy in the event, he sailed out to the race area on Friday & Sunday to inspect the fleet.
